This is the heart of the site: welcoming, active forums where you can share I Ching readings, explore hexagram meanings, and discuss anything to do with divination. There are new readings posted and updated every day: you can learn from these, offer insights if you can, and also get help with your own readings. (Questions range from ‘What is synchronicity?’ to ‘What if I buy this new car?’)
The Community was founded in 2001, and its archives are a treasure trove of I Ching experiences and insights. As a member, you can easily search through them all – and make your own contributions.

CLARITY…… I can think of a many key words like a library, a resource, an ‘Oxford Dictionary’ for the Yi Jing, a modern concept of the Yi Jing representing the Zeitgeist etc. But the best reason for me is to have a place to go when there is nowhere else to go, when questions can no longer be answered through the usual ways. A place where it is safe to ask. A place where the Clarity community takes me to gently understand and interpret the answers the Yi Jing provides. Free??
Yes. Of course I’ll be happy if you go on to become a paying member of WikiWing or Change Circle, but there is absolutely no obligation. You can become a valued member of the I Ching Community and stay for free for as long as you like. (Some people have stayed for decades!)
This may not seem like very good business sense, but there’s more to Clarity than that!
How does a forum work? Is it like social media?
It’s like social media in that it makes it easy to connect with like-minded people. You have a profile, there are public threads and also private conversations.
It differs from social media in that it’s designed for in-depth conversations. You can always read all the messages, in the order they were posted. People come back and post updates a week or a year later. Old threads get moved to the archives, but it’s all searchable; nothing disappears. (Also the forums are actively moderated: no personal attacks, no flame wars – it’s a community, not a free-for-all.)
When you join, you can access a quick-start course that will show you round the forum’s features, but it’s all pretty intuitive.
I don’t know anything about the I Ching. Is this for me?
Absolutely! That’s one of the main purposes of Clarity, to introduce people to the I Ching for the first time. You can make your way through the Beginners’ Course, and meanwhile more experienced members will be happy to help you. You may be surprised by how quickly you get comfortable with the I Ching – and the community.
I’m already experienced with the I Ching. Is this for me?
Absolutely! There are a few pdfs in the free members’ library you’ll probably find interesting (one on Hexagram 44, for instance, one on periods of time in the I Ching). More to the point, inside the I Ching Community you’ll be able to connect with other experienced users from across the globe and start conversations on whatever you want. (Also, we’d really welcome your comments on newer users’ readings!)
Compare membership levels…
Here’s what you have access to at different levels of Clarity membership: joining ‘Friends’ is free; WikiWing and Change Circle come with a modest monthly/annual fee.
The ‘Reading Circle’ and ‘Yi Academy’ forums are only available to members, not on the public internet, and members promise to keep what’s shared there confidential.
I Ching chats, available from the public website for £30, are included in Change Circle membership at no extra charge. As a member, you can book a session with me whenever you need some more help with a reading.
The Foundations Course covers everything you need to interpret your own readings with confidence – trigram relationships, the primary-relating hexagram structure, dealing with multiple moving lines…
It’s also sold separately, in a self-study version, for £75, but Change Circle members can get help and feedback with the course assignments via the Yi Academy forum.
